Excessive notching of floor joists severely
compromises the bearing strength of the joist.
Placing a heavy object on the floor above could
result in failure of the joist. Repair or replacement by a
qualified carpenter is indicated.
The insulation on the wire in the centre of this picture has
been melted off. This was caused by the homeowner installing
a fuse that was rated too high for the gauge of the wire. This
resulted in the circuit overheating, melting the insulation, and
damaging the electrical panel. (Note rust behind the fuse
block). This homeowner oversight could easily have caused a
fire. Repair or replacement by a licensed electrician is
required.
Not only is this downspout misaligned with the eavestrough
below it, but the entire downspout is clogged with debris.
This clog will cause water to back up to the top of the
downspout, where it could overflow and cause damage to
the home's structure, and could cause water to leak into the
home's living spaces and basement. This is a maintenance
issue.
